The Vampire Diaries 4×01 Growing Pains

After writing my catch-up post on The Vampire Diaries yesterday, I was amped to watch it last night. The episode started out with a very confused Elena, who woke up Twilight style, eyes wide open gasping for air, as, you guessed it, a vampire.

Although, I would probably wake up like that every time if I were her considering Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley spend more time in her bedroom than anywhere else. And go figure, they are there when she wakes up to ease her through this “transition.” As you can expect Damon and Stefan obviously have different ideas on what Elena should do.

Stefan plays the good guy and tells Elena that Bonnie is working on a spell that will help her be human again and not have to feed to complete the transition. Damon plays the bad guy (like always) and is angry at Stefan for listening to Elena and saving Matt from the car accident, forcing Elena to become the one thing she never wanted to be, a vampire, and thinks that getting her hopes up about being human again isn’t going to help at all, because it’s virtually impossible and has NEVER been done.

Cue the sibling rivalry that we assume will never end…

The one thing no one realized about Elena’s transition is that she’s slowly remembering all of the things that she was compelled not to. Especially this…

*sigh*

Then we meet the new head of the council. The not so nice pastor who is (literally) hell-bent on ridding Mystic Falls from vampires and supernatural, you know again. Thanks to our bestie Alaric he knows who everyone is and who to target, so Rebekah and Caroline are first, then he gets Stefan and Elena (who he still thinks is human.) Klaus hears about it all (still in Tyler’s body) and saves Caroline over his sister which leads to a steamy make out in the woods, that is until Klaus’ undeniable, perfect British accent gives him away as 100% not Tyler.

Tyler/Klaus makes Caroline lead him to the rest of the gang so Bonnie can do another crazy spell to get Klaus a new body to hang out in. Little does he know that Bonnie has already been slapped on the wrist by “the other side” for attempting to help Elena via her Grams. So when Klaus threatens to kill Tyler (by violently ripping out his heart, ew) if Bonnie doesn’t help, she is forced to and in turn leads to the complete torture of her already dead Grams (yea, I was confused too).

So we left Elena at the crazy vampire killing pastors house, but she can’t control herself and this transition stuff seems like a bitch, so she runs. But once a damsel in distress  always a damsel in distress. She gets caught and ends up in vampire prison with Rebekah and Stefan. The only problem? She still hasn’t fed, Bonnie can save her, and we only have 3 hours left. Naturally The CW can’t let their heroine die, so….

Cue Damon saving the day ALWAYS. He has some elaborate plan that involves almost killing Matt and while this is going on Stefan is able to distract a guard and kills him, so Elena, who basically has no choice, can complete her transition.

What’s her first ask as a vampire? Saving Matt from Damon. UGH. I’m so over Matt.

THe episode ends with the crazy pastor torching the rest of the council. Why? (Beside the fact that he’s crazy?) I guess we’ll just have to watch next week.
