At the end of Green Day’s set at iHeartRadio’s yearly festival, Billie Joe Armstrong hada meltdown over their set being cut short – even though it wasn’t. With a minute left in their set (camera man viewed the prompt screen), the Green Day front man went on a cursing rampage, and clearly was angry at the current state of pop music. He ranted about not being Justin Bieber, the Biebs wasn’t even on the bill so I’m not sure why the pop sensation was the target. Anyway, Armstrong concluded his rant by smashing his guitar, reminiscent of their 90s basement performance days. I, personally, loved the rant. I thought it was hilarious, it was entertaining, and quite frankly, it was rock & roll. Sadly, days after the meltdown, Billie Joe Armstrong checked into rehab for substance abuse. Check the now-called meltdown below!
The meltdown had me thinking of how common this happens among celebrities. Let’s be real, celebrity meltdowns shouldn’t even surprise people anymore. I guarantee hundreds of celebrities go through this on a yearly basis. Can you blame them? High-pressured lifestyle, paparazzi always up in your business, expectations to be a role model. Anyone who has to constantly deal with that would eventually melt down as well. For a celebrity to make it to the list, they must’ve either surprised the hell out of everyone, scared the hell out of everyone, or just flat out did something or said something so ridiculous that people that regularly meltdown look at them and be like, “They’re melting down!” Despite that Billie Joe’s rant is special, especially after backing it up with one hell of an album with iUno!, it’s still too young to make the Top 5 List. It will in the future, I guarantee that.
With that said, here are the Top 5 Celebrity Meltdowns.
5) Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay, despite that its like the same episode over and over again, have broken down on a constant basis. Seriously, how many films has Lindsay been in since like 2004? Don’t worry I’ll wait…
I thought so. Let’s be straight up with things, she’s on everyone’s radar cause it seems that every week she does something that has everyone saying, “here we go again.” From her crash in 2007 to her DUI that landed her in treatment to her numerous court appearances in 2010 to her grand theft felony charge, she’s honestly, if were keeping score, blowing the competition out in terms of breakdowns.
4) Mel Gibson
Honestly, one of the most disturbing phone calls ever. In the summer of 2010, voice recordings of Gibson’s threats towards former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva were released. My personal favorite quotes include: “I’ll put you in a ******* rose garden,” and “Go **** a Jacuzzi.” I’m not sure how Mel was able to scream for that long, but he sounded like a heart broken 17-year old who just lost his first girlfriend to the high school jock. This is what females do to you fellas! They turn you crazy, and eventually you’ll melt down like Gibson did. Just stay level headed when you try to threaten your ex-GF on the phone because if you don’t, she won’t understand your threats. I swear Gibson must’ve blacked out so much that he was having a hard time forming sentences!
3) Mariah Carey
Oh my baby, Mariah, deep inside knows we belong together, so I feel hurt talking about her meltdown. First and foremost, I’m one of the few that don’t think this was a meltdown. Honestly, this made the list only because its Mariah Carey, and it’s unexpected. She didn’t go nuts and like cursed out Carson, she didn’t flash the TRL fans waiting in Time Square. She’s on the list cause (1) why did she roll up on TRL with an ice cream truck? (2) why was she wearing an air brushed t-shirt? All those scream meltdown in every way possible, no wonder she checked into therapy for exhaustion days later.
2 & 1) Britney Spears & Charlie Sheen
This is the list! If I didn’t have to stay consistent with my other Top whatevers, I would’ve just done the whole post on these two. As you can see, I couldn’t choose which had the worst (best) meltdown. First of all, both are now synonymous with infamous breakdowns. Charlie Sheen’s is more recent, thus it’s a lot fresher in my mind. Britney Spears, on the other hand, is memorable, never will it be forgotten. The day that the pop princess shaved her head and attacked a car will forever pop in my head every time I hear a song from her. Sorry not sorry. Sheen had quotables for days, and quite frankly I can watch his insane interviews over and over again to lighten my day.
