Disney Studios recently released the first trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful, which is set to hit theaters in March of next year. And I’ve got to say that I’m really psyched to see it! I think it’ll be the first really big film of 2013. Oz is a prequel to the original Wizard of Oz from the 1930’s.
The film has an all-star cast – it’s featuring familiar faces like James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams. Besides just the appeal of award winning actors, Sam Raimi will be directing the film. Now before you go searching around the web for that name, I’ll tell you that Raimi is prominently known for directing the Evil Dead series and the Spider-Man trilogy.
This is the second sneak peak of the movie that has been released as of yet. We’ve seen a small clip and now we have a full trailer to dissect and enjoy! And even though the trailer is less than three minutes long, I’m already enticed into seeing Oz just by the special effects that it will feature. Like the original Wizard of Oz, the film will start off in Kansas with black and white scenes and it will switch over to color when the main character arrives in Oz.
Oz: The Great and Powerful will feature James Franco in the leading role. He will play Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician from Kansas. Diggs says in the trailer, “I don’t want to be a good man. I want to be a great one.” And we over here at Zing think that this film won’t only be a good one, it’ll definitely be a great one. Oscar will be whisked away to Oz in the beginning of the film, where he’ll be introduced to three witches – Evanora (Weisz), Theodora (Kunis), and Glina (Williams). I’m getting the feeling from the trailer that one of these witches will ultimately turn out to be into some kind of evil that Diggs will have to save Oz from. Oscar will have to figure out which witch is good and which are bad in order to become the great man he wants to become.
